Parkour-spot.com : a new Parkour website

parkour spot As you may have noticed if you come regularly on Parkour-videos.com, I support a new website : Parkour Spot. During 3 weeks now, Parkour-videos.com’s visitors were able to see a large text banner on the top of the site, a bit like this :

New website : Parkour Spot

Almost the same promotion was visible on Parkour.NET.

If I support this website, it’s for 3 reasons :

  • Paul is a friend
  • “Pk Spot” is a good project
  • Parkour-sport.com is already a success : a community website well designed and well programmed with all the necessary functions.

Ok, but what it’s all about ?

Spot is the result of weeks of work from Paul Leprevost aka Sarudansei, a Traceur / webmaster / webdesigner.

The objective of this site is simple: to gather in one single place all the data related to the practice of (l’art du déplacement) from across the world. To do this, the site is based on a communication and participation system so that each member contributes to the growth of this vast database.

To make it even simpler : on Pk Spot, you’ll find :

So, now, if you want to see what does PkSpot looks like, you know what you have to do…

Parkour.NET is back

Parkour.NET As you may have noticed : Parkour.NET is back ! A lot of websites have mentioned it : UrbanFreeFlow.com, AmericanParkour.com, ParkourGenerations.com, NorthernParkour.com, Parkour.asn.au, Overground.com.pl, ParkourFrance.com and maybe some others (give me links). They all seem to be happy with this because Parkour.NET contains a lot of useful information about Parkour, but they’re annoyed because it is accessible in read only.

.NET back in read only

Yes, Parkour.NET is back online but only in read only. It means :

  • Nobody can register
  • Nobody can post new topics
  • Nobody can post new replies to existing topics

Sorry for that, but this should not change. As long as I’ll be behind Parkour.NET, it will stay in read only. People who know why it has been closed will maybe understand that.

News : make the point

On June, 6th of 2006, I posted this news on the old version of parkour-videos.com :

New design

As you can see, a new design has been put. This design is still ugly and poor, but easier to navigate. It is not XHTML yet and contain no images but i hope it will in the future. If you want to help me to create a new design, you’re welcome :-)

Advertising

There is now a Google ads banner on the right side of the site. This advertising will, i hope, help to pay my Ferrari the webhosting which cost a lot every month.

Last videos

I’ve recently posted few new videos. Here are the links to them :

Jerome

If I’m posting it again now it’s for 3 reasons :

  1. To archive : the text of this news was online in the past, so it’s normal to put it back.
  2. To avoid a broken link : this news was available at this url : parkour-videos.com/new-design-ads-few-videos/. Before I reposted it, when you tried to access the page, you were probably getting a 404 error : page not found. So the first reason is to avoid people getting this error.
  3. To give some news and make the point : I just want to talk a bit about the developpment of -videos.com and parkour.net in few lines to let you know.

About the developpment of .NET and pkvid

  • Parkour.NET : On October 4th of 2007, after a lot of discussions between the .NET staff members, Dave posted an important announcement on Parkour.NET. Basically and to make it simple to understand, we wanted to tidy the forum and reorganise it. Finally we have changed few days after our direction : we now want to start everything over from zero. We have started a new forum where only few persons have access. Those persons are motivated persons, moderators, admins, translators who want to help. We’re more than 20 persons and some of those persons have worked hard to organise the forums, translate and/or write articles and publish them there. This new born progress correctly, some parts are near to be ready (especially the french and english parts) and I can’t wait to launch it. The problem is that actually the project has slowed down : some parts have only one person able to work on it, and the design I want is a bit complicated and, at the time that I’m writting those lines, I don’t know yet if the professionnals I’ve contacted will be able to make it (I must admit that I don’t like the design they proposed to me yesterday…). If those professionnals webdesigners can’t make it, I’ll ask it to another professionnals.
  • Parkour-videos.com : on December, the 1st of 2007 (2 months earlier), I announced parkour-videos.com coming back. I said I was going to add all the old videos which were available on the old version, and then add new videos. Finally, I’ve found some videos I particulary liked and didn’t want to wait to publish them, so I’ve also added some recent videos. Now I’m focusing on adding all the old videos. I’ve added 30 of the 137 old videos plus few recent videos : there are actually near 45 videos on pkvid and I’ll try to publish at least one video per day. All videos have few captures and a download link. As you have probably also noticed, you now have the ability to comment videos and to rate them. Don’t hesitate ;)
  • Note : I’ve recently posted an only acrobatics video : Damien Walters demo 2007. PhilippeK said in a comment :

Jerome, I don’t think it’s a good idea to add non- videos on this website, when there are MANY awesome pure videos that are still not here.

I must admit that he is right and I agree with him. I just wanted to share this great video with you all, but -videos.com should publish only good videos, and not other kind of videos. So, except for the old videos, I will now try to limit as much as possible non videos on this site. Some videos will probably contain tricks, but if I publish them it will be because they also contain some interesting parts.

Parkour-videos.com is (re)launched !

In 2006, I had the idea to launch this website to spotlight the best videos of Parkour. I posted more than 130 videos and the website had a great success… until I stopped for various reasons. But there were still lot of visitors and so, I decided few weeks ago, to re-start it from zero with a better blogging tool : WordPress (the old version used TextPattern).

Like .NET, Parkour-videos.com is borning again in a new version.
